Phoenix Super LPG and Du’Vaughn Maxwell will settle some unfinished business come the 2023 PBA Governor’s Cup which begins on January 22.
The Fuel Masters brought back Maxwell for the season-ending meet.
Head coach Topex Robinson and team manager Paolo Bugia confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
For Robinson, it’s about settling some unfinished business with Maxwell, who was brought in late early this year.
“As we said early this year, Du’Vaughn was the right fit for us,” said Robinson, noting that he will arrive on January 2.
“It was our priority to bring him back and start the conference with him.”
Phoenix Super LPG started the 2021-22 Governors’ Cup with Paul Harris, going 3-2 with him.
Harris though suffered a knee injury and was replaced by Dominique Sutton. Phoenix though struggled with Sutton, going 1-3.
With Harris and his 27.5-point and 13.8-rebound averages, the Fuel Masters were able to make it the quarterfinals as the eighth seed.
However, Phoenix was routed by top seed Magnolia, 127-88.
And the Fuel Masters have learned their lesson.
“Every time you bring in a new import, you really never know what you’ll get,” said Bugia. “You can see all the stats and video but so many factors will affect his actual game when he gets here.
“Bringing in a returning import makes coaches more confident and know what they are going to get. Maxwell did well for us last time and we want him to continue that this conference.”
