Philippines picks up first friendly win at Bangkok University’s expense

Playing their fourth straight tune-up game, the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball Team finally carved out a morale-boosting victory in Thailand, Thursday.

The Nationals flaunted their winning form, sweeping the Bangkok University Women’s Volleyball Team, 25-19, 25-19, 25-15, 26-24.

Reminiscent of their previous match against the Under-23 squad of the Thailand National Team, the Filipinas figured in another four-set affair.

This time though, the Nationals had a stronger finishing kick. They secured all sets against the Thailand-based squad spearheaded by former UVC and BanKo imports Sutadta Chuewulim and Jutarat Montripila.

National team head coach Shaq Delos Santos continued to utilize his 10-woman team comprised of skipper Aby Maraño, Kalei Mau, Alohi Robins-Hardy, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Mylene Paat, Majoy Baron, Ces Molina, Roselyn Doria, Dawn Macandili, and Kath Arado.

The Philippines shall next face Japan’s V-League runners-up Toray Arrows, who also bagged the championship in the 2018-19 All-Japan Kurowashiki tournament.
