CAPAS, TARLAC — Natalie Uy set a new Southeast Asian Games record in the women’s pole vault competition, Sunday at the NCC Athletics Center.
Uy — who is just 25 years old and hails from Kettering, Ohio — cleared 4.25-meters to win gold and set the record.
“I know I can do it. I just do what I do in practice and have fun,” said the product of Eastern Michigan University.
The previous record was 4.21 meters, set by Thailand’s Sukanya Chomchuendee during the 2013 edition of the biennial meet.
Chomchuendee finished second with a leap of 4.10m, while Khabut Chonthicha finished bronze with 4.00m.
This is the first time in Philippine history that the men’s and women’s swept the pole vault competition.
EJ Obiena won the male event yesterday with a SEAG-record of 5.45m.
