PFF assures safety of Filipinas after mass shooting in Auckland


LAKE TEKAPO — One day before the start of its 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team experienced an unforeseen incident.

Near where the team is situated in the Auckland central business district, there was a mass shooting incident involving an unknown assailant.

According to an official statement from the New Zealand police, the incident resulted in multiple injuries and two fatalities.

The assailant was also killed.

The Philippine Football Federation has assured that the Filipinas are safe and are preparing for the World Cup.

An official statement from the squad stated, “All members of the Philippine Women’s National Team delegation at the FIFA Women’s World Cup are safe inside Movenpick Hotel Auckland. The team is preparing to depart for Dunedin for the match against Switzerland on Friday.”

The Filipinas will kickstart their campaign against Switzerland at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Manila time.
