PacificTown-Army holds off BanKo for first win

In a rematch of the PVL Reinforced Conference battle for third, the PacificTown–Army Lady Troopers prevailed once again, ripping into the BanKo Perlas Spikers, 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference, Wednesday evening at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Happy kasi first game, considering na nanalo si BanKo sa Petrogazz. Momentum sila tapos first time kami na lalaro ng All-Filipino. Back to drawing board kami last time, pero ngayon nandyan na. Gumagalaw na ulit ang mga tao namin,” said PacificTown–Army head coach Kungfu Reyes.

With the win, the Lady Troopers have now taken three of their last four matches against BanKo, beginning with their bronze-clinching victories last conference.

Just like their previous tiffs, the Perlas Spikers didn’t go down without a fight.

The Lady Troopers seemed headed for a sweep, but the Perlas Spikers disrupted their tempo. The latter then leapt to a 16-8 headstart in the third frame to keep their comeback hopes alive. That proved to be their last hurrah, however, as Army regained their footing in the ensuing set to douse BanKo.

“Sabi nga namin, kung tayuan lang, kaya naman namin. Gagalaw lang kami ng maayos, mananalo kami. Ganoon lang ang ginawa namin nu’ng fourth set. Kung paano kami nag-start ng first set, second set ibinalik lang namin ang rotation namin,” Reyes added.

Jem Guttierez fired a game-high 22 points, all but two coming from attacks. Royse Tubino contributed 17 attacks for 19 markers. Sarah Jane Gonzales delivered 15 excellent sets on top of two markers.

On the other hand, BanKo skipper Nicole Tiamzon had 21 points built on 17 attacks and four aces that went for naught.

Dzi Gervacio strutted her all-around wares, tallying 13 points laced with 15 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions in a losing cause. Jem Ferrer tossed 24 excellent sets, while Nina Balang had 13 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions.

PacificTown–Army will next face Choco Mucho on Wednesday next week. Meanwhile, BanKo Perlas squares off against Air Force on Saturday. Both matches will be played at the FilOil Arena.
