National University-Monolith faced a harsh reality check after being swept by LP Bank Ninh Binh of Vietnam, 15-25, 20-25, 22-25, in Pool B of the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Monday at Chathai Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Following a four-set win against Iran’s Saipa Club (25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18) the previous day, the Sky Risers crumbled against a strong Vietnamese team led by Nguyen Thi Bich Thuyen, dropping to a 1-1 record.
NU-Monolith struggled to find their rhythm in the first two sets, trailing by as much as 10 points in the opening frame and losing momentum late in the second.
The Sky Risers put up a better fight in the third set, but it wasn’t enough to stop LP Bank Ninh Binh from securing the victory.
Trailing by just one point in the latter stages of the third, Dinh Tinh Thuy scored off the block, but Alyssa Solomon responded with a cross-court attack, cutting the deficit to 22-23.
However, Nguyen Thi Trinh sealed the match with a running attack and a crucial block on Solomon, ending NU-Monolith’s comeback attempt.
The NEC Red Rockets, who the Sky Risers will face on Tuesday, sit atop the table with a 2-0 slate.
