Noy Remogat’s rise boosts UP’s back-to-back ambitions

Noy Remogat didn’t have the best of starts at University of the Philippines, but it was only temporary.

Once he found his rhythm, it was all systems go for the high-scoring point guard who transferred from the University of the East.

Remogat was limited to just 2.5 points, 1.0 rebound, and 2.0 assists in his first two games as a Fighting Maroon — both of which ended in losses.

But then he caught fire.

His emergence coincided with three consecutive wins against University of the East, National University, and the erstwhile-unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University.

In those three victories, the 5-foot-10, 21-year-old guard averaged 15.66 points, 5.66 rebounds, 7.33 assists, and 1.66 steals. He peaked with a 20-point, eight-assist, six-rebound performance against the Blue Eagles in an 83-69 win on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

“Siguro yung pag-stick lang sa system and pagtiwala lang kay Lord kasi hindi rin naman ganon kadali yung challenges every day as a player eh, at sa amin as a team. Siguro yung nag-matter yung sa kabila ng challenges na hinarap namin eh kung paano kami mag-stick as a team,” said the Season 86 Mythical Team member.

“Siguro bliness lang kami ni Lord, nagkaroon kami ng tatlong sunod-sunod na panalo. And yung mga ganitong bagay na nakaka-score, magandang laro siguro bonus na lang sa akin. Mahalaga nananalo yung team.”

UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde expressed encouragement over Remogat’s rise, saying it aligns with what was expected of him when he transferred to Diliman, especially in their pursuit of back-to-back titles.

The Fighting Maroons now hold a 3-2 record, sitting in solo fourth place, and will look to extend their winning streak on Sunday against the FEU Tamaraws at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

“Mahalaga sa akin syempre yung confidence niya towards every game and for the whole team also. Sa akin, yung trust siguro with each other mas nabubuo. Every time na gumagalaw nang maayos yung bola, that’s a sign na yung trust namin sa isa’t isa mas lumalaki,” said Monteverde.

“He’s very important din para sa amin.”
