Nesthy Petecio has already struck gold in the AIBA Women’s World Championships, but there’s still one thing she aspires to get: a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games.
Petecio has seen action in three consecutive editions of the regional biennial meet from 2011 to 2015. Unfortunately, though, the only medals she was able to bring back home were silver ones.
That has finally changed.
Petecio achieved a dream on Monday night, beating Ni Oo Nwe of Vietnam via unanimous decision to rule the featherweight division of the 30th SEA Games Monday at PICC Forum.
“‘Yung una kabado talaga ako kasi alam kong mabibigatan ‘yung laban ko dahil diretso finals na ‘ko. Pero nag-pray lang talaga ako,” said the 27-year-old fighter from Davao Del Sur.
Petecio — who lit the cauldron in New Clark City alongside boxing great Sen. Manny Pacquiao to open the Games last November 30 — gave the Philippines its sixth medal in boxing.
