Two-division World Champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang believes that being active over the last year will be a big edge entering his high-profile match against Brandon “The Truth” Vera on the historic ONE: Century PART II.
“The Burmese Python” puts his ONE Light Heavyweight World Title on the line in the main event of the evening show set for 13 October at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
The ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion has been very active, battling three times in 2018 before competing in ONE: A New Era on March 31.
Vera, on the other hand, has competed only once in that span. He took a knockout victory over Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli at ONE: Conquest of Champions last November 2018.
“I fought more in the last year than he has in the last five years,” Aung La N Sang stated.
“I don’t think it will be ring rust for him, but the nerves leading up to the event [can] affect the person. We will see how he deals with it.”
The 34-year-old does not necessarily expect “The Truth” to struggle. He does, however, expect to come in more comfortable than his foe.
“I have a feeling that he will be dealing okay with it, but he won’t be as comfortable as me. I’ve been in that Japan crowd, and I’ve had six World Championship fights in the last two years. That is going to be a big factor.”
The Hardknocks 365 star is also not worried about the Filipino-American’s size advantage, as he has enough big guys on his team to prepare him for this match.
“I work with bigger guys, I work with taller guys, and I work with heavier guys than Brandon Vera,” the heavy-handed striker said.
“When fight night comes along, size and power are not going to be an issue.”
When the Circle door closes on October 13, Aung La N Sang is confident he can cut down the Alliance Training Center athlete to size by moving forward, staying in front, and putting on the pressure.
Skills-wise, the Kachin State hero thinks he matches up well with the ONE Heavyweight World Champion. But what “The Burmese Python” believes will set him apart from Vera is his heart – one of the Myanmar athlete’s biggest attributes.
“I think I match up well against him in all aspects of mixed martial arts,” Aung La N Sang said. “My biggest strength will be my heart. I’m a grinder, and I fight with my heart. There is no quit in me. He is going to have to do everything that he can, but I’m going to keep pushing forward – and that’s going to be the key in the fight.
“Everybody knows how explosive he is. Everybody knows the power that he has, but I’m going to grind him down and beat him.”
