MOONTON avoids overlap with SEA Games, schedules M7 for January 2026

PUTRAJAYA – The M7 World Championship is set to take place in January 2026, MOONTON Games announced on Friday during the M6 Summit at the Marriott Hotel here.

Much like M4 in January 2023, the seventh installment of the M-Series is scheduled for January 2026 to avoid overlapping with the Southeast Asian Games, slated for December 2025. This scheduling provides Southeast Asian teams with greater flexibility in assembling their rosters and ample preparation time for the biennial meet. It also ensures that both events maintain their competitive integrity, allowing teams to perform at their peak.

The 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand are scheduled from December 9 to 20, followed by the M7 World Championship, running from early to late January 2026.

Meanwhile, the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) will split its 2025 season into two halves: the first running from early March to late June, and the second from late August to early November.

The 2025 MLBB Mid-Season Cup will return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, taking place from mid-July to early August. Additionally, the Snapdragon Pro Series will feature prominently in next year’s calendar, with the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Challenge Finals in February, the Mobile Masters in April, and a new season running from August to November.

“We’re delighted to see more competitive diversity at our tournaments. At the ongoing M6 World Championship, we’ve seen, for the first time in M-Series history, four teams from different regions reach the semifinals,” said MOONTON Games Head of Regional Esports Mike Chu.

The top four of the ongoing M6 World Championship are Fnatic ONIC (Philippines), Team Liquid (Indonesia), Selangor Red Giants (Malaysia), and Team Spirit (EECA). The Filipino squad has already secured a spot in the grand final last Wednesday. Team Liquid awaits the winner of the Selangor Red Giants vs. Team Spirit lower bracket semifinals to determine who will advance to the lower bracket finals.

“This is a result of our strategy to grow the ecosystem internationally; MLBB is now truly a global esports brand,” Chu added.

MOONTON Games also unveiled plans to establish a local league in China and build an esports ecosystem for its latest title, Magic Chess: Go Go. Additionally, initiatives to create a dedicated local esports league for female players and develop a collegiate esports scene are already underway.

“MLBB’s global expansion continued in 2024 with the establishment of the Chinese league. We are excited to witness one of the world’s gaming powerhouses test their strength in the MLBB esports ecosystem,” said Chu.
