Last January 13, Mikey Williams and the Saigon Heat became the first blemish on the Chong Son Kung Fu’s slate. In their first match-up since then, Mikh McKinney and his squad were able to get one back, romping the Vietnamese club team, 94-79, Wednesday evening at the Nanhai Gymnasium in Guangdong, China.
McKinney, the reigning Heritage Import of the Week, out-dueled Williams this time around, finishing with a team-high 23 points on an efficient 9-for-14 shooting, with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
After getting his groove back last Sunday in the Heat’s win over Hong Kong Eastern, Williams had just 13 points, but was able to dish out seven dimes.
Saigon led by as much as nine points in the second frame, 34-25, before Chong Son decided to turn it up. McKinney and fellow Filipino-American teamed up during that frame, as Chong Son outscored Saigon 26-14 during that span.
It was all Chong Son from there, as they led by as much as 18 points in the closing seconds of the contest.
Tionson was limited to just 29 minutes in the contest, fouling out with less than two minutes remaining in the contest. The 6-foot-4 forward had 13 points and six rebounds in the contest.
Chong Son’s World Import Justin Howard finished with a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Anthony Tucker notched another triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Maxie Esho and Akeem Scott paced Saigon with 29 and 22 points respectively. Esho gobbled down 17 rebounds as well.
Chong Son remain half a game behind Hong Kong with an 8-2 slate ,while Saigon dropped to below .500 with a 5-6 record.
