World-ranked polo player, sports patron, and Philippine Air Force Reservist Col. Mikee Romero recently traded the polo mallet for humanitarian tools, leading a multi-phase outreach program that touched the lives of nearly 300 Aeta-Indigenous Peoples at Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base in Capas.
Under Romero’s leadership and in partnership with the PAF 790th Air Base Group led by Lt. Col. Owen Avenido, the month-long initiative delivered three major programs that went beyond agriculture and infrastructure.
The installation of a permanent market area, “Magtinda Aeta,” was just the beginning—the program’s expanded humanitarian phase provided medical, dental, and grooming services, along with food packs and essential medicines for families who otherwise have limited access to healthcare.
Volunteer dentists also performed tooth extractions, taught oral hygiene, and offered preventive care for children and elders.
“It’s our own way of uplifting their spirit and providing joy to IPs, and it was very fulfilling,” Romero said.
He was joined by Col. Yay Hizon, Col. Floreto Solano, Col. Valdimir Mata, LTC Josefina Torres, Commander Peter Negrido, and LTC Meliton Agpaoa.
Romero’s philosophy in sports—discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—mirrors his approach to community service.
He believes that these initiatives will strengthen not only the immediate welfare of the Aeta families but also their long-term livelihood capabilities.
Operational support also came from the 2nd ARCEN under Col. Mark Anthony Yambing, 710th Special Operations Wing (710 SPOW) led by BGen Rommel Allan Genete, Col. Caesar Lubaton, and Col. Nasul Sajili, as well as Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) U9 Chief Col. Belle Mangangba.
