Joyce Onrubia’s last-minute equalizer saves Kaya-Iloilo in draw against Bam Khatoon in AWCL

Joyce Onrubia’s late equalizer earned Kaya-Iloilo a 1-1 draw against Iranian club Bam Khatoon FC in the 2024–25 AFC Women’s Champions League on Wednesday at the BG Stadium in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

Substituted in for Cam Rodriguez in the 83rd minute, Onrubia calmly finished off a pass from midfielder Anicka Castañeda in the 90+4 minute to salvage a point for Let Dimzon’s side, which had trailed for most of the match.

Kaya-Iloilo’s second consecutive draw solidified their hold on second place in Group B with two points, as they awaited the result of the match between Thai club College of Asian Scholars and Australia’s Melbourne City, which was ongoing at the time of publishing.

The match began with Kaya-Iloilo on the defensive, as Zahra Ghabari converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute after Bea Delos Reyes fouled Mona Hamoudi.

Hamoudi had a chance to seal the victory in the second half, but goalkeeper Inna Palacios made two crucial saves, setting the stage for Onrubia’s last-minute heroics.

Both teams will wrap up their group-stage campaigns this Saturday at the same venue.

Kaya-Iloilo will face Melbourne City at 5 p.m. (Manila time), followed by Bam Khatoon’s match against CAS at 7 p.m.
