Mika Reyes taking leadership tips from Daquis


Mika Reyes is a lot of things, but most importantly, she’s incredibly self-aware.

The De La Salle University alumna admitted that she had been shocked when she was named the the team captain of the Philippine Team that will compete on August in the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship and the Southeast Asian Games.

Still, the five-foot-ten middle blocker is up for the challenge, knowing that this type of trust from the coaching staff bears considerable weight.

“It’s a really big responsibility pero ayoko lang siya itake negatively kasi ako lang din ang mahihirapan doon.

“Sobrang may tiwala naman ako sa mga teammates ko na hindi naman na kami mga bata na and, ang mga makakasama ko dito, naging captains na rin na kanya kanyang leaders sa kanilang teams,” the 23-year-old said adding that she has taken notes from multi-time National Team member Rachel Daquis.PSL-AFC-2017-Foton-vs.-Cignal-Daquis-8749 Mika Reyes taking leadership tips from Daquis News Volleyball  - philippine sports news

“I think it’s just a label din naman pero siyempre may kanya kanyang responsibility yan and sabi nga ni ate Rachel, kasi siya talaga yung nagagalit sa akin nung Kazakhstan, sabi niya: ‘Siyempre ikaw lang din yung taga-remind.'”

“Ang pinakanatandaan ko na sinabi niya na as a team captain mas uunahin mo yung kapakanan ng ibang tao before sa sarili mo,” added the Petron Blaze Spiker.

“Maraming areas pa akong kailangan i-improve and aminado ako na hindi rin naman ako ganun kagaling. Pero naniniwala ako na kaya namin ng team mabuo,” declared the former PSL champion.
