Much is expected of Sarangani 10ACT’s Migs Pascual as he heads into his second professional season in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
Beyond leading the Marlins on the court, head coach John Kallos expects Pascual to also guide the team off it.
It might seem like a heavy burden for a 24-year-old who is just a year removed from collegiate ball, but Pascual has all the traits to handle it.
“We all know Migs growing up, he’s really a leader,” said Kallos, who is also the president of the Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. “From San Beda to San Sebastian, he was looked up to by his teammates.
“I’m pushing him to be that way here sa Sarangani kahit may mga ex-pros siya na teammates here.”
Last season, Sarangani barely missed the play-in in the South Division, falling short by just one game.
This time, the Marlins have reloaded with key additions like Tzaddy Rangel, Lars Sunga, Coy Alves, and Yvan Ludovice.
“Migs is one of our key holdovers and he is a huge part of Sarangani,” added Kallos.
In a preseason matchup against defending champion Abra Solid North last Saturday at the Caloocan Sports Complex, Pascual recorded six points and seven assists.
More is expected of him on the court as well.
“As a point guard, we want him to be more assertive as well,” said Kallos.
And just as he has done before, Pascual is ready to embrace his newfound responsibilities.
