Migs Palanca has been quietly putting together a strong campaign for National University Nazareth School this season.
While much of the spotlight has been on the dominance of Collins Akowe, Palanca — a 6-foot-6 forward — has been making his presence felt, averaging 8.73 points and 7.09 rebounds per game.
That presence was especially crucial last Sunday when the Bullpups faced a determined University of the East squad.
With NU clinging to a 40-33 lead at halftime, Palanca responded to their MVP’s call, scoring all 10 of his points in the second half.
His efforts helped propel the Bullpups to an 89-70 victory, securing a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
The Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte native finished with a game-high plus-33 efficiency rating.
Palanca credits his growth to training and competing alongside Akowe, saying it has been preparing him for his transition to the Bulldogs later this year.
Palanca understands that the collegiate level is a different challenge altogether, but learning from Akowe has been a huge help in his development.
