The Meralco Bolts have secured the services of 7-foot-2 center Liam McMorrow to bolster their bid in the 2018 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Thailand starting September 27.
McMorrow will be partnered with two-time PBA Best Import Allen Durham to strengthen the Orangemen in the annual tilt, which will feature the top ball clubs across the continent.
The 31-year-old won’t find it hard to adjust to the Filipino style of play, as he already played in the PBA back in the 2015 Governors’ Cup for the now-defunct Barako Bull Energy. He averaged 27.1 points and a whopping 19.9 rebounds during his only stint in the PBA.
Back then, the Governors’ Cup allowed unrestricted height for imports among teams with bad records.
McMorrow is expected to arrive tomorrow night. He will have enough time to acclimatize with the Bolts, as Meralco will fly to Nonthaburi on September 25.
Meralco is grouped with Lebanese club team Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut, Japan’s Alvark Tokyo, and Thailand’s Mono Vampire in the annual club meet.
The Bolts are looking to improve the Philippines’ finish in the 2017 edition in China, where Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas finished fifth. The last time the Filipinos won the tilt was in 1996.
