Mason Amos will miss at least the remainder of the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Basketball elimination round.
The 21-year-old Filipino-Australian forward was diagnosed with a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament tear in his right knee.
Fortunately, there was no damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Recovery from such an injury typically takes six to eight weeks, meaning the earliest Amos could return would be the week of November 23, while the latest would be after the Final Four.
Green Archers head coach Topex Robinson confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
The injury happened with 7:07 remaining in the fourth quarter of La Salle’s game against National University on Sunday.
Gelo Santiago, who was about to pass through a screen, stumbled and collided with Amos’s right knee.
Amos had to be wheeled off the court and was taken to Makati Medical Center for an MRI.
The 6-foot-7 forward is La Salle’s fourth-leading scorer, averaging 8.4 points, 3.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.
La Salle currently holds a 2-3 record in the tournament.
