Majoy Baron is starting to carve her niche as one of the best middle blockers in Southeast Asia.
Her performance for the Philippine National Women’s Volleyball Team during the first leg of the ASEAN Grand Prix was a testament to that. The regional meet pitted the country’s finest against the best players of Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
In the three-day tournament, the former De La Salle stalwart posted 12.33 points per game, spiked by nearly five kill blocks per outing.
Given her fine display of dominance above the net, the 5-foot-11 Filipina spiker was hailed the Best Middle Blocker of the tournament.
To make things sweeter for Baron, the award came hours after she helped the Nationals eke out the bronze-clinching victory over Vietnam, where she poured in 13 points built on six kill blocks.
Onuma Sittirak of Thailand bagged the Most Valuable Player plum. Her fellow Thai Chatchuon Moksri was named the Best Spiker, while Tri Retno Mutiara of Indonesia received the Best Setter award.
Thi Kim Lien Nguyen of Vietnam took home Best Libero, while Megawati Hangestri of Indonesia captured Best Server to complete the cast of individual awardees.
