Just days before their debut in the 2026 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Magnolia has opted to bring in a new import for its campaign.
Sudanese forward Nuni Omot will replace Terrell Brown-Soares as the Hotshots’ foreign reinforcement, multiple sources closely monitoring the situation have told Tiebreaker Times.
Brown-Soares was released on Wednesday.
Omot, who stands at 6-foot-9, has been on a tear on the international stage.
A product of Baylor University, Omot went undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft before suiting up for the Long Island Nets in the NBA G League.
He later took his talents overseas, playing in leagues across North Macedonia, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Germany.
After returning to the G League with the Westchester Knicks and the Lakeland Magic, Omot continued his globetrotting career with stints in Egypt, France, China, Israel, and Rwanda, before most recently suiting up for Lebanese powerhouse Al Riyadi Beirut.
During his time with Al Ahly in 2023, he won MVP honors in the Basketball Africa League.
In the ongoing West Asia Super League, Omot averaged 21.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game for Al Riyadi.
The WASL and the Lebanese league have been postponed indefinitely due to the conflict in the Middle East, which has freed up Omot to play in the PBA.
However, it was with the South Sudan men’s national basketball team where he truly made his mark.
His breakout performance came during the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
His best game in the Summer Games came against Team USA, dropping 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting in South Sudan’s 103-86 loss.
Omot is set to make his Magnolia debut on Friday against the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
