ANTIPOLO — Macau has decided to relieve Garrett Kelly of his duties as head coach amid a winless start to the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Tiebreaker Times learned from sources that the Black Knights have brought in former basketball star Marcus Elliott to assume the position in an attempt to breathe new life into what’s been a horrendous run thus far in the midseason tilt.
Currently, the team is at no. 12th in the 13-team field with a 0-3 record, with their most recent loss a 110-93 rout at the hands of Barangay Ginebra last Friday.
Elliott, 41, was actually in attendance for that game, played before a packed crowd at SMART Araneta Coliseum. And the humiliating result, apparently, proved to be the last straw, as the management went on to make the switch.
Prior to getting blown out, their previous losses came from Converge, 102-94, last March 12, and then to Rain or Shine, 116-109, two nights later.
The league has already been notified of the coaching change after receiving Macau’s formal letter on Wednesday, according to another source.
Elliot and the Black Knights are in the process of securing the needed documents, including a working visa, to proceed, a source said.
Barring any hitch, the former ABL standout–who last played for Thai club Hi-Tech Basketball back in 2024–shall make his debut this Saturday, March 28, when Macau takes on another 0-3 team in Magnolia at the Big Dome as well.
