Losa powers San Beda Red Spikers back to NCAA 95 win column at Letran’s expense

Jeffrey Losa powered San Beda University back to the winning column after a four-set triumph of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, in the NCAA Season 95 Men’s Volleyball tournament, Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The reigning Best Opposite Hitter was all over the place, finishing with game-high 23 points, 20 of which came from attacks to go with two blocks and an ace. On the defensive end, Losa also delivered seven excellent receptions and stifled 17 attacks through his digs.

San Beda ended the game with 20 more spikes than the Knights at 58-38, attributed to their better reception at 35-percent. The Red Spikers pounced Letran’s first ball with seven service aces.

Head coach Ariel Dela Cruz was pleased that they were able to get back on track. “Malaking adjustment [after the loss against San Sebastian]. Nag-adjust kami from receive to spiker-receive,” he shared as San Beda rose to 2-1.

“Sabi ko nga kailangan lang naming gumalaw ng maayos. Ipakita lang natin yung tamang laro,” he continued.

Letran kept it close in the final three sets due to their net defense on 12 blocks, with Brylle Novo leading the Knights with three. Nonetheless, their faulty reception made it difficult for Letran to score.

Novo ended with 13 markers, getting nine attacks and an ace to go with the said rejections. The former Squire was also the lone bright spot in reception with nine excellent deliveries.

Letran fell to 0-3.

San Beda (2-1) will try to mount a winning streak when it faces undefeated Arellano University (3-0) on Monday, January 27 at 10 a.m. Meanwhile, Letran (0-3) will battle Mapua University (0-2) on Wednesday, January 29 at 3:30 p.m.
