The PBA’s iron man continue to make history
Entering Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s tilt against the Globalport Batang Pier Sunday evening, LA Tenorio had amassed 2,457 total assists in his stellar 12-year PBA career. He was 16th all-time in the list, three dimes away from surpassing Gerry Esplana.
By halftime, Tenorio was tied with the former Shell Turbo Charger after dishing out two assists. The 33-year-old floor general did not waste anytime in the third frame, finding Kevin Ferrer on the corner for a triple just a minute and 35 seconds in.
“Ibig sabihin tumatanda na ako,” quipped Tenorio of that moment.
Tenorio finished the game with 17 points and seven assists, moving him to a total of 2,464 assists. More importantly, Ginebra came out on top 104-97.
“To be honest, di ko alam at ine-expect na makukuha ko yung milestone kasi di ko siya tinatrack down,” admitted Tenorio, who has yet to miss a game in 12 seasons. “Still, I’m very honored. It’s a blessing for me, an achievement na parang the more na gusto mo pang ipakita yung kaya mo gawin especially as a point guard.
“Tinitignan diyan yung assist, kung paano ka mag-dedeliver sa teammates mo, and how to make your teammates look good every game.”
Even with all the accolades, Tenorio is still hungry for more, vowing to be more aggressive as they years go by.
“The more na mas pagbubutihan ko especially for the team. I’m a point guard na hindi naman really looking to score, I’m a point guard na talagang really looking to setup,” reflected the product of the Ateneo great. “If there’s an opportunity, it’s a good achievement para sa akin. I hope di mag-stop dito. I hope to be more aggressive in the game and not set aside yung achievement na ganyan.
“I’m thankful and very honored to be part of the top 15. Maging member ka ng that group, it’s an honor to be there.”
