For the first time since the United Football League days, amateur teams and players will have a chance to compete against the country’s professional clubs.
The Philippines Football League announced that 10 squads have submitted their intent to go up against the big boys once the tournament commences this June.
This includes UAAP teams such as De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University as well as Armed Forces of the Philippines squads like the Philippine Army and Philippine Airforce.
Cagayan de Oro Rapids, which has long been rumored to join the PFL, will finally see action in a major domestic club competition.
The likes of Davao Aguilas UMak FC, Tuloy FC, Pilipinas Dragons, Manila Digger, and Dasmarinas FC look to also make waves once they take on the rest of the field.
These 10 clubs will join the likes of Kaya-Iloilo, Stallion Laguna, Maharlika Manila, Dynamic Herb Cebu, the Azkals Development Team, and Mendiola 1991 in fighting for the gold medal.
There is still no word if United City, the competition’s defending champions, will participate since the club just announced that it will not participate in the second half of the 2022-2023 PFL season.
