Kristina Knott finished her first-ever stint in the World Athletics Indoor Championships at eighth place during her first-round heat, Friday afternoon (Philippine time) at the Stark Arena, Belgrade, Serbia.
The country’s sprint queen clocked in a time of 7.39s in the women’s 60 meters event.
This result is 0.03 seconds better than her only other result for the year so far in the said event — 7.42 seconds set at the World Tune-up meet in New York just 13 days ago.
The second heat of the morning was a pretty even race at the start before a burst of speed separated the contenders from the pack.
Unfortunately, Knott has yet to find her form this year and eventually finished last among the eight racers.
Mujinga Kabundji of Switzerland won the heat in 7.17 to advance to the afternoon’s semifinals. Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye and Spain’s Maria Isabel Perez joined the Swiss trackster into the next round with identical 7.23-second finishes.
Knott looks to bounce back later in the year with a jam-packed schedule that includes the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games.
The 26-year-old Fil-American sprinter got her berth into the Indoor Worlds after breaking Lydia De Vega’s record in the event in the KMS Invitational last year with 7.26.
