Kevin Alas has taken responsibility for the NLEX Road Warriors’ stinging, 80-85 defeat at the hands of sister team TNT KaTropa on Wednesday night.
With the loss, the Road Warriors dropped to 0-3 this early in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
Alas visibly struggled in the endgame. He first missed a trey with 1:07 left, which could’ve given his side the lead. Afterwards, he failed to cover Roger Pogoy’s three; and lastly, he sent Jayson Castro to the line with 14.4 seconds left.
“I think I cost us the game kasi ‘yung foul ko kay Jayson, ‘yung three-points ni Roger, that was my assignment. Then the open three, na-mintis ko. Siguro I have to take responsibility for ‘yung talo namin,” admitted the five-year pro.
But beyond his endgame woes, Alas is struggling.
Alas only shot 1-of-10 from the field in Wednesday night’s defeat. Combined with his game versus the NorthPort Batang Pier last Sunday, the former Letran Knights star has been shooting a grand total of 2-of-21 from the floor.
It can be attributed to him still regaining his game shape, but the second-generation cager offered no excuses.
“I think I’m two out of twenty-one the past two games. Na-point out din ni Coach Yeng [Guiao] kanina,” shared the 24-year-old from Las Piñas. “Yeah, siguro kulang pa rin ‘yung game rhythm, game shape ko, pero no excuses.
“Kasi as I said bago naman ako bumalik, I was one hundred-percent ready naman eh.”
