The young bright prospects of the G League now have a name.
The NBA announced on Thursday morning (Manila time) that the G League select team will now be called Ignite.
“We think it’s a fitting moniker for a group comprised of young players taking the first step of their promising professional careers,” said NBA G League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim said in a statement.
“These players have a passion for the game and a desire to develop their skills for the next level and it brings us a lot of pride for them to blaze trails as inaugural members of NBA G League Ignite.”
Headlining the squad are Filipino duo Jalen Green and Kai Sotto.
Joining them are Jonathan Kuminga, Daishen Nix, Isaiah Todd, and Princepal Singh.
For the next few months, the team will train under head coach Brian Shaw and his staff, which includes the likes of assistant coach Rasheed Abdul-Rahman, video coordinator Jerry Woods, and athletic trainer Pete Youngman. Their homebase is located in Walnut Creek, California.
Unlike the majority of the G League, Ignite will not have any affiliations with an NBA team.
