Fans of Alab Pilipinas and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel witnessed a scary sight on Wednesday evening.
During the second half of Game Two pitting Alab against the Mono Vampire, Brownlee was hurt, prompting head coach Jimmy Alapag to sit him down in the fourth canto. He would return at the 2:32 mark of the final frame to check in for the fouled-out Lawrence Domingo.
The six-foot-seven scorer played through the pain until the end, even trying to save Alab again like he’d done in Game One, but he missed the game-tying triples in the closing seconds.
Alab bowed to Mono, 100-103, tying the best-of-five series at one game apiece.
“I really hope so (that it’s nothing serious),” said the 29-year-old native of Tifton, Georgia, who finished Game Two still with all-around numbers of 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
Alapag said that his World Import had only cramped up, but even Brownlee doesn’t know what exactly had happened to him, saying that he felt hurt during a situation where he was trying to get the ball.
“I’m not sure what it is.
“I was going for the ball and I felt something,” recalled Brownlee, who set an ABL Finals record of 46 points back in the Finals opener last Sunday.
Now, Brownlee hopes that he can find out as soon as possible, so he can play in games three and four, which will both take place in Mono’s homecourt in Stadium 29 in Bangkok.
“Hopefully I can find out tonight or tomorrow morning,” he said.
“Do some treatment and get some rehab. I hope to be ready by Saturday.”
