Judie Arevalo embraces challenge as FEU faces life without seniors

By: Nicole Parallag

Judie Arevalo has quickly emerged as one of the rising stars of Far Eastern University.

After making her mark in UAAP Season 87 with three goals that earned her the Rookie of the Year award, she followed it up in the recently concluded Season 88 by claiming the Golden Boot Award with eight goals.

In FEU’s 2-0 win over rival La Salle in the final, Arevalo opened the scoring for the Lady Tamaraws with a 15th-minute header off a corner kick — an early breakthrough that set the team on the path to victory.

“Sobrang happy po kase nung Season 87 nakuha ko po yung Rookie of the Year,” she shared.

“Ngayon po, ganun din naging Golden Boot. Sobrang sarap yung feeling po na nakuha ko po ito.”

The victory marked a historic moment in the UAAP as FEU secured its fourth straight and a record 14th championship, further cementing its legacy in women’s football.

“Maraming salamat po sa Panginoon sa pagkapanalo ngayong season dahil naging ‘four-peat’ kami. Naging history kami,” she added.

However, the Morayta squad is about to undergo a major transition next season, with Arevalo expected to take on a bigger role.

A significant number of seniors, many central to their championship runs, will graduate.

Among those bidding farewell are Best Midfielder and FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup call-up Regine Rebosura, as well as fellow Barotac Nuevo standout and Season MVP Jonela Albino.

Their exit adds pressure on Arevalo to guide the next generation of Lady Tamaraws.

“Tuloy lang po sa pagtrabaho dahil maraming ga-graduate,” the 20-year-old forward from Iloilo said.

“May mga new players next season. Wag lang talaga pa-kumpiyansa. Kailangan magtrabaho pa rin kami ng magtrabaho.”

As Arevalo’s career continues its upward trajectory, she now prepares to help steer the Lady Tamaraws through these changes, carrying the responsibility of defending the team’s legacy.

“Ayun nga po, may pressure pa rin dahil marami ang maggagraduate na seniors. Kailangan ma-defend pa rin yung title next year,” she said.
