Juan Gomez de Liano praying for fellow ‘Ka-Better’ CJ Cansino

It’s sad to see a fellow student-cager crumpling on the floor in pain. What more if that player is someone you work out with?

With 5:57 left during the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons’ second round encounter against the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, CJ Cansino went for a drive. However, the 6-foot-1 utility guard fell badly on his left knee.

Cansino did not return to the game and is currently undergoing an MRI.

It took at least five minutes before the super rookie was stretchered out to the back. And UP sophomore Juan Gomez de Liano made sure to whisper his well-wishes for Cansino.

“I just told him to stay strong and I’ll pray for him.

“From what I saw, there was no contact. It was his landing lang talaga. Pero from the previous games, diba CJ has been getting injured din?” shared the 19-year-old Isko, who worked out with Cansino over the summer in the Better Basketball program of Patrick Tancioco.

For the season, only Gomez de Liano and Cansino have tallied triple-doubles in the league.

UP eventually won the game, 83-69. But before celebrating this one, Gomez de Liano will make sure to offer a prayer for his fellow ‘Ka-Better’.

“I hope he’s all right. I’m praying for him,” shared Gomez de Liano, who had 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the game.

“It’s sad to see a brother down on the ground. All the best to him.”
