Joshua Pacio glad to have fellow Lakay Kevin Belingon as neighbor

With the operations of Team Lakay’s two gyms shut down due to the enhanced community quarantine, the members of the team have been forced to find ways to work out on their own.

Fortunately for ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua Pacio, stablemate and former world champion Kevin Belingon is just a few blocks near his place.

For the majority of the ECQ, the duo has been working out together, posting videos of their adventures on Instagram.

“The hardest part is that we can’t go to the gym to train, that’s why we find ways to train inside our homes. In the past years, we were lacking training equipment in the gym. This is not new to us, so we find ways to stay sharp,” said Pacio, who owns a 19-3 record.

“Luckily, I have punching mitts and manong Kevin and I are in the same barangay so we hold pads for each other.”

Also helping out in Pacio’s self-made regimen is his pet dog.

Since regaining the strawweight crown last April of 2019, Pacio has made two successful title defenses of his belt. Besides this, he has already beaten the who’s who of the division.

So many are wondering whether the 24-year-old is ready to go up in weight especially now that he is training with Belingon, who is two divisions heavier than him.

“When I get older, I think we need to talk about getting up in a higher weight division,” Pacio disclosed.

“But for now, I have no intention of going up in weight classes because my teammates are in those weight classes.”

It has been five months since Pacio stepped inside the ONE cage. But rust is the least of his worries right now.

For now, Pacio is praying as hard as ever that the coronavirus pandemic finally ends.

“The important thing for me in this kind of situation is praying to God. He is the only one who knows what’s going to happen, trusting in God in this kind of situation is important and of course, we should trust Him not only in these situations but in good times or bad.”
