Will we see Jordan Clarkson play for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup this July in China?
That has been the big question as of late, following the Philippines’ entry to the global showpiece through a rousing 93-75 victory over Kazakhstan in the Asian Qualifiers’ sixth window, Sunday.
But it looks like nobody needs to ask the Cleveland Cavaliers guard if he wants to play for Gilas again.
On Tuesday afternoon (Manila time), Clarkson took to social media platform Instagram to congratulate Gilas for entering the World Cup, and even hoped to see his brothers-in-arms in China.
“Congrats to my bros and the country such an honor for the country, qualifying for the World Cup, so hyped!!!” wrote the 26-year-old, who played for Gilas back in the 2018 Asian Games.
“Hope to see you guys in China!!!”
Many have been dreaming for Clarkson to play for Gilas in the FIBA stage and form an all-NBA duo with naturalized center Andray Blatche, who had stops in Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets.
And there is a chance, as long as FIBA will recognize Clarkson as a local.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has already said before that they are discussing with FIBA to have Clarkson be recognized a Filipino citizen in the eyes of basketball’s governing body.
