Adamson University obliterated University of the East in just one hour and three minutes to start its UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball campaign in dominant fashion last Saturday.
After a tight 25-19 first set, the Lady Falcons just ran away with the victory with lopsided 25-9 and 25-5 second and third frames, respectively.
First-year Adamson head coach Jerry Yee though did not see their performance against the Lady Warriors, who finished 1-13 last season, as “flawless”.
“Not too much. Yung next game namin yun tignan natin. Yung next game namin kung maganda yung execution, kung maganda yung laro,” shared Yee, who also coaches College of St. Benilde women’s team in the NCAA.
The real mettle test for Adamson is up next on Wednesday when it goes against defending champion National University, which opened their title defense with a straight sets conquest of Ateneo de Manila University.
The Lady Bulldogs are currently on a 19-game winning streak, yet to lose since COVID-cut Season 82.
“Probably luck of the draw na okay yung first game namin and then we get to watch NU in the second game,” said Yee.
“Sila naman yung defending champions so lahat tayo looking up to them, tingnan natin yung standards [nila],” he added.
On a personal note, Yee was just in awe to be back in the UAAP after six years when he guided University of the Philippines in Seasons 78 and 79.
The veteran tactician made sure to not miss his return to the premier collegiate league even though the Lady Blazers also had a game on Saturday at the San Andres Sports Complex against San Beda. Assistant coach Jay Chua handled Benilde.
“Ang ganda ng venue. Masaya syempre the fans are there, pinagkakagastusan, pinaghihirapan. Okay yung competition and ang ganda ng venue,” said Yee after their game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
