Jeron Teng grateful to have new home in Converge

Jeron Teng feels blessed that Converge ICT came through and dashed the uncertainties he and his teammates felt upon Alaska’s exit from the PBA.

While it remains to be seen if the FiberXers will absorb all of the former Aces, the young star feels fortunate enough that he and his teammates now have a team to look forward to playing for instead of having none in sight.

“Of course, we’re all really blessed dahil we found a new team with Converge,” he said after the team’s media launch at Edsa Shangri-la, Tuesday.

“Siyempre, last conference, we didn’t know where we’d go next. Pero now, at least, Converge is there for us, and we’re just all really blessed and excited to play for Converge,” the De La Salle University great furthered.

Teng was one of the six ex-Alaska players who graced the event, and they all witnessed how team owner Dennis Anthony Uy expressed his intentions of forming a competitive crew in a bid to establish themselves as winners.

The 28-year-old said that it’s definitely an added motivation for him and the other players heading into the 47th season, which starts in June.

“Meeting si Sir Dennis and si Ma’am Grace [Uy], they’re really passionate about basketball eh, how much they love the sport,” he said,

“And, you know for us players, it’s extra motivation to have owners like that. So we’re really extra motivated for the next conference.”

The second-generation cager is expected to be the face of Converge, who will begin its journey in Asia’s pioneering pro league next season.

The bruising 6-foot-2 forward is still under a three-year contract, which he signed with the Aces months prior to the 2021 cage wars.

He is coming off a solid Governors’ Cup campaign with averages of 12.9 points and 4.2 rebounds, including a career-high outing of 30 points with five rebounds to lead his side to a 102-97 comeback win over Terrafirma.

Now, it would be all about preparing the best he can for the next season for Teng, as he’s keen to help Converge achieve its goal of winning.

“For me, as a player, focus ko lang talaga is preparing myself, my body for the next conference,” said the newly-engaged cager.

“‘Cause I really wanna give my best for Converge’s first conference, first season.”
