2024 FIVB Challenger Cup

Jema Galanza reveals injury limited role in Alas’ FIVB Challenger Cup run

The days leading up to the 2024 FIVB Challenger Cup proved to be a roller coaster for Jema Galanza.

Galanza, who missed the AVC Challenge Cup but committed to the team for the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) qualifier, rolled her ankle during Alas Pilipinas’ preparations.

Her jumping ability was affected by the minor injury, prompting head coach Jorge Souza de Brito to initially list the Creamline star as a libero before the tournament.

This decision also addressed a glaring problem for the national team, with Jennifer Nierva sidelined for the tourney.

Days before the Challenger Cup, Galanza regained her form and returned to her original position.

Despite the setbacks, the former PVL MVP embraced the challenge, determined to contribute to the national team in any way possible.

In the game against Vietnam, which they lost in straight sets, 14-25, 22-25, 21-25, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday night, Galanza fulfilled her role as a service specialist.

So doon tayo focus kung pa’no maso-solve yung problema.

Despite the loss, Galanza remains grateful for the opportunity to contribute despite not being at her best. She appreciated the support from the packed crowd and expressed optimism for the team’s future.
