2025 FIVB World Men’s Championship

Ilocos Norte turns volleyball hotspot with FIVB Men’s Worlds trophy tour

Laoag City proudly showcased its support for the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Volleyball Championship during the “Set Na Natin ‘To Trophy and Mascot Tour,” held last Saturday at the newly opened SM City Laoag.

Cignal stars Josh Umandal, JM Ronquillo, and Vince Maglinao headlined the event, drawing volleyball fans from across Ilocos Norte to celebrate and rally behind the country’s hosting of the world tilt.

The well-attended tour — which began two weeks ago at SM Seaside Cebu and will conclude this Saturday at SM Downtown in Cagayan de Oro — also extended beyond the mall to Dap-Ayan Park, where a mini tournament was staged featuring four local teams.

Block Builders, led by MVP John Paul Lorenzo, emerged as champions, outplaying North Western University, Laoag Men’s Team, and Pasuquin.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) president Ramon “Tats” Suzara expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Laoag City and the province of Ilocos Norte for their support.

“We are very thankful to the City of Laoag and the Province of Ilocos Norte for the warm welcome and enthusiastic support for the world championships,” said Suzara.

The 32-nation tournament officially kicks off on September 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, with the Philippines opening its campaign against Tunisia at 6:00 PM.

The match will be followed by a spectacular opening ceremony headlined by K-Pop group BOYNEXTDOOR.

The competition will run until September 28, with tickets available through the official website: www.philippineswch2025.com.

Adding to the excitement were the official mascots, KidLat and Hataw, who entertained fans with their high-energy performances and playful antics throughout the event.
