Highly-touted Jarque, two Red Cubs, Sumabat commit to CSB


College of Saint Benilde scored a massive haul in its buildup for the NCAA Season 98 Seniors Basketball Tournament.

Headlining the Blazers’ freshman class is 6-foot-4 all-around guard Zenric Jarque.

Jarque, 19, is the best-kept secret of multi-titled head coach Aldin Ayo.

Had he not been let go by University of Santo Tomas, Jarque would have joined the Growling Tigers.

Jarque, 19 years -old and a product of Ayo’s ABC Ideas program, finished high school in St. Clare.

He will be joined by fellow St. Clare product Carlos Sumabat Jr. — a 6-foot-6 small forward who is 21 years old.

Helping head coach Charles Tiu secure the commitments of the two prospects were EOG Management’s JR Guevara and team booster Frank Lao.

“We were fortunate to be connected to these two fine young men through Coach Aldin Ayo,” said Tiu. “I see these two young kids as a big part of the program we are trying to build. We are trying to ensure that CSB will be competitive for years to come. We are very grateful to Boss Frank Lao for all the support he has been giving us throughout this pandemic.”

Besides Jarque and Sumabat, CSB also got the commitments of San Beda-Taytay products Michael Mara and Edson Serrano.

Mara, 20, is a 6-foot-5 forward while Serrano, 19, is a 6-foot-6 big.

The two were not able to play for San Beda during Season 95 but were under the guidance of Phenom Championship Clinic during the off-season.

Helping Tiu in getting their commitment is team booster Andoy Reyes.

“Apart from Joshua Cajucom, we were also able to recruit Michael Mara and Edson Serrano from the Red Cubs Program.

‘I was able to watch them play for the Phenom Basketball team in their leagues and they immediately caught my attention. I also thank Boss Andoy Reyes for helping us secure these guys,” said Tiu.
