Life is good so far for the Maclaude Guadana and the Lyceum of the Philippines University.
The Pirates defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College 74-67 to seal their third win in the campaign, which allowed them to surpass their 2-7 record back in Season 97.
Amidst his team’s high confidence, Maclaude Guadaña looks forward to what his team can achieve down the line in the Pirates’ next games.
“Sobrang saya namin kasi unang-una refresher namin to ngayon eh. So ibig sabihin, from Season 97 na two wins lang kami, eto na beat na namin this Season 98,” shared the 21-year-old guard out of Tagaytay .
“So ayon, masarap sa pakiramdam na nanalo. Dumadami yung sumusuporta, dumadami yung lumalapit and at the same time gumaganda yung samahan namin ng bawat teammates and coaches namin.”
Guadaña finished with 12 points on 57.1-percent shooting from beyond the arc. He also produced three rebounds, two assists, and two steals against the Generals.
The Pirates’ good run of form in their recent matches offset a bad start to the season. In its first game this season, Lyceum got their first loss at the hands of College of St. Benilde in a 69-86 defeat.
For Guadaña, it was a game they couldn’t forget since they still felt nervous about how their season will pan out.
However the team steadily improved and finally broke out from its shell by trusting the system of its coaches.
“Unang-una galing to sa CSB game eh. Nung CSB game talagang ewan ko, first game jitters na parang kanya-kanyang biyahe kami eh,” the sophomore said.
“After that game ayun na lagi nakasulat ga board namin. Trust the system, trust the coaches, trust the teammates na nag-lelead samin sa pag-eenjoy sa laro.”
Furthermore, Guadaña praised the players who stepped up for the team whenever they were in a critical situation to achieve the goal one game at a time.
With the Pirates seeking more victories, each player on the team must consistently contribute for them to overcome the challenges that will come their way this season.
“Siguro that’s the goal pero may mas maliit pa kaming goal na one game at a time siguro. Big credits talaga sa mga biglang nag ste-step up,” the 6-foot-1 guard expressed.
“Kung iisipin niyo sobrang dikit na samin, sobrang sikip na samin yung court para samin nila Enoch [Valdez], nila [Renzo] Navarro. And then all of a sudden papasok sila,” he continued.
“Di nila inaasahan biglang puputok, biglang magsstep-up teammates namin.”
