Grethcel Soltones set for NCAA Beach Volleyball competition in Subic

Gretchel Soltones will team up with Dangie Encarnacion to defend their women’s title in the 91st NCAA beach volleyball tournament slated Feb. 10-15 at the Boardwalk of the Subic Bay Free Port Zone in Zambales.

Soltones, who won it all last year also in Subic, will be eager to get back on the sandcourt as she tries to soothe the pain of the Lady Stags’ heartbreaking defeat to the St. Benilde Blazers in the indoor volleyball finals.

“She will play,” said San Sebastian coach and athletic director Roger Gorayeb referring to the power-hitting Soltones, a back-to-back NCAA MVP in indoor volleyball and the reigning MVP in beach volley. Gorayeb added that libero Alyssa Eroa will be San Sebastian’s reserve.

San Sebastian is currently tied with Perpetual Help as the most titled women’s team with four each since the sport was introduced 14 years ago and will emerge as the most decorated if they could repeat this season.

The Lady Altas though are expected to give the Lady Stags a tough fight as they will be represented by Jam Suyat and Vhima Condada.

The College of Saint Benilde, for their part, will defend its men’s crown in this tournament hosted by Jose Rizal headed by Paul Supan and backed by The Lighthouse, Bayfront Hotel, Subic Park Hotel, Moonbay Villas, LGR, Mikasa, SBMA, and ABS-CBN Sports and Action.
