Alex Eala made a strong start to her 2026 Toray Pan Pacific Open campaign, sweeping British wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the round of 16 on Monday at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.
The 20-year-old Filipina dominated the 17-year-old Stojsavljevic from the opening game, dictating the pace of the match to secure a comfortable victory and move one step closer to the quarterfinals.
Eala broke Stojsavljevic early in the opening set and quickly built a commanding 4-0 lead before the British teenager managed to get on the scoreboard.
The Filipina remained in control, taking the first set in just seven games.
The second set proved more competitive, with Stojsavljevic showing greater resistance and forcing Eala to work harder on her service games. However, Eala maintained her composure, fending off break-point opportunities before pulling away to seal the straight-set victory.
Eala will next face Australia’s Talia Gibson, who advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Daria Kasatkina, 6-0, 7-5, earlier Monday.
