Jeus Yape made history as the first-ever Asian Games champion in Virtual Taekwondo, following his dominant 2–0 victory over Vietnam’s Chau Ngoc Tuyet Sang.
After narrowly missing out on a medal in the Men’s Individual Poomsae the other day, the University of Santo Tomas standout made the most of his opportunity in Virtual Taekwondo, taking down his Vietnamese opponent in the opening round with 500 hit points.
Yape then completely depleted his opponent’s remaining hit points in the second round to close out the match and secure the historic gold medal.
Yape also became the second Filipino athlete to win two medals in the Games, following Carlos Yulo’s double-gold haul.
