Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio believes that fans are in for a treat when he returns to the Mall of Asia Arena for ONE: Dawn of Heroes in Manila on August 2.
Eustaquio, the latest addition to the stacked card, will face Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu of Japan in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix alternate match.
For the outspoken Eustaquio, victory is the only acceptable outcome as he threads his way through the flyweight division toward another World Title shot.
“My ultimate goal right now is to keep on winning and winning, so I can get closer to a championship,” Eustaquio said.
“I’m catching up right now. It’s hard, but not impossible. I’ll do my best to make every Filipino proud. I’m really eager to show them I can evolve.”
This will be Eustaquio’s third assignment in 2019. Previously, he split his prior two battles against top opposition.
In his last outing, the 30-year-old Baguio City native put his name back in the winning column after scoring a unanimous decision victory over Kim Kyu Sung of South Korea at ONE: Enter the Dragon in Singapore last April.
He then failed to defend his World Title in his initial assignment this year against Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes at ONE: Hero’s Ascent in Manila this past January. Still, he was able to stand toe-to-toe with the Brazilian for five rounds.
Equipped with lessons, experience, and momentum from his previous wars, Eustaquio is confident that he is ready to face Wakamatsu as he continues to climb back to the top.
“I’m into the sport for a long time. My confidence in my game has always been there for me. Now it’s all a matter of preparation,” Eustaquio said.
“The momentum is there, especially after winning against a very good athlete last April. Now I just have to keep it tight and smooth.”
With that in mind, he has no plans of disappointing his hometown fans as he promises an even more explosive “Gravity” next week.
“Training is very good for me and my Team Lakay brothers. They will see my improvements and my abilities and why I deserve to be a World Champion again,” Eustaquio said.
“Martial arts fans will see a refined ‘Gravity’ on August 2.”
