F2 Logistics outlasts gritty Generika-Ayala to seal second seed


Behind another balanced scoresheet, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers maneuvered past the feisty Generika-Ayala Lifesavers for their 10th win in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix, 25-12, 25-27, 26-24, 25-14, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Cargo Movers slipped up late in the second frame following a dominant first set showing. Gaining set point twice in a deuce, F2 Logistics then lost grip, giving up three straight errors and tying the match at a set apiece.

F2 Logistics got another chance in a tight third set. Leading 23-18, the Cargo Movers coughed up four straight giveaways, which Generika followed with two hits from Som Kuthaisong to give them the lead, 23-24. MJ Perez then slammed a hit past two blockers to tie the set, setting up Ara Galang’s block in Generika import Kseniya Kocyigit. Generika-Ayala had a chance to respond the following point, but Kuthaisong whiffed on her hit and gave the set to F2 Logistics.

The fourth set was all F2 Logistics as an 8-0 run gave them a decisive 15-7 lead that locked the match’s result quickly.,

“Medyo nagka-problema kami talaga sa errors kanina. Siguro, medyo nawala lang sa focus noong lumamang kami sandali,” said F2 Logistics head coach Ramil De Jesus.

“Pero medyo nangangapa pa din kami since ilang games pa lang namin nakakasama si Perez. Magi-improve pa ‘yung team sa mga susunod na games,” he added.

The 2017 Grand Prix MVP Perez dropped 25 points, while the 2018 Grand Prix MVP Lindsay Stalzer added 16.

Kuthaisong finished with 22 points, while Fiolla Ceballos added 18.

Both teams finish their elimination round schedule on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. F2 Logistics (10-3) take on the Cignal HD Spikers (7-6), while Generika-Ayala (4-9) face the Foton Tornadoes (2-11).
