History has been made on Monday as a Filipino has won the Most Valuable Player award of the Korean Basketball League.
Ethan Alvano became the first non-Korean player to win the top individual accolade of the league.
The 27-year-old guard out of Corona, California averaged 15.94 points, 6.59 assists, 2.96 rebounds, and 1.44 steals per game.
His performances led Wonju DB to a league-leading 41-13 slate – a 19-game turnaround from last season.
Alvano became the fifth Promy player to win MVP after Kim Joosung (2003-04 and 2007-08), Shin Kisung (2004-05), Yoon Hoyoung (2011-12), and Doo Kyungmin (2017-18).
Last season, RJ Abarrientos – who played for Ulsan Hyundai Mobis – was the first non-Korean player to win Rookie of the Year honors.
Alvano previously played for San Miguel Alab, Hi-Tech Bangkok City, and Eisbären Bremerhaven before arriving in Korea.
Joining Alvano in the All-KBL team are teammates Kang Sangjae and Dedric Lawson, Seoul Samsung’s Lee Junghyun, and Suwon KT’s Paris Bass.
Albano and the Promy will wait for the winner of the Seoul SK and Busan KCC series in the semis.
