Espejo sits out as Tokyo completes sweep of Nagano in V.League

FC Tokyo cruised to a straight-set win against the hapless VC Nagano, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the Sumida City Gymnasium on Sunday.

Marck Espejo did not play and was in street clothes on the bench.

Unlike yesterday where the Tridents were able to snatch a set, this time FC Tokyo made sure to not have any meltdown throughout the match.

Espejo’s squad limited Indonesian import Rivan Nurmulki to just 12 points after going off for 29 yesterday.

Jonas Kvalen led FC Tokyo again with 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks. Meanwhile, Hayata Yanagimachi stepped up with 10 points.

Middle blocker Hideyuki Kuriyama was a man among the boys at the net with five blocks to go with six hits for 11 points.

FC Tokyo rose to 6-12 while VC Nagano remained at the bottom at 1-17.

Kota Ikeda topscored for the Tridents with 15 points.

FC Tokyo is set for a match-up against defending champion Suntory – which now has 7-foot-2 giant Dmitriy Muserskiy after serving his doping ban – on Saturday, 1:00 PM, at the same venue.
