ONE women’s atomweight number one contender Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga represented Fairtex Training Center in her first two bouts in ONE Championship, therefore, many people were surprised when the gym’s name didn’t appear next to the Filipina’s moniker leading up to her next bout.
Zamboanga, who faces Watsapinya “Dream Girl” Kaewkhong at ONE: A New Breed this Friday, August 28, in Bangkok, Thailand, revealed that she has parted ways with the famous gym in Pattaya.
But she assured fans that her relationship with the people she worked with over at Fairtex goes beyond the four walls of the training center.
“As for my former teammates and coaches, I love them all, and that doesn’t change,” she said.
Zamboanga also clarified that competing in the same weight class with Stamp Fairtex was not a factor in her decision to move out of the gym.
“The Menace” built a great relationship with the reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion during her time at Fairtex and their friendship remains intact.
Lately, talks of Stamp challenging ONE Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee in mixed martial arts surfaced when fans were polled on their dream match in The Home Of Martial Arts, but Zamboanga is confident she will get to Lee first.
“I don’t think my friend will accept it if that opens up because I know she’s focused on getting her kickboxing title first, so I am confident that I’ll get to Angela Lee first,” Zamboanga said.
“But I wouldn’t have an issue with it – if they decide to go with Stamp and Angela first, then I’ll just wait for the winner of that match. “
For now, her focus remains solely on Kaewkhong as she plans to put on an undeniable performance this Friday.
“This Friday might not be the title fight for me, but I want to be active. I grabbed the chance to stay active since I’m in Thailand anyway,” Zamboanga said.
“Right now, I’m treating and preparing for my opponent like I would for Angela Lee, like she’s the caliber of Angela Lee.”
Catch ONE: A New Breed this Friday, August 28, at 8:30 P.M. on One Sports and One Sports+ or by watching it thru the ONE Super App.
