Deep into the tourney, familiarity still a concern for Customs, yields Valdez

At first glance, the Bureau of Customs Transformers are a loaded squad. Add to that their decent record in the standings of the 13th Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference.

However, all of that were overshadowed with a stunning straight set loss as BOC bowed to the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors Saturday night.

Forever sport, star scorer Alyssa Valdez gave credit to the Lady Warriors despite being drubbed in the one-sided match, saying that their opponents clearly wanted to win more.

“Pocari really prepared well for this game and they really performed well as a team,” said Valdez moments after the match.

“Pocari deserved that win kasi they never quit talaga ’til the end of the game. They gave us a hard time, and they really deserve the win.”

With regards to her team, they still need to work on their chemistry despite playing together for five matches already in the import-laden conference.

“We need to have experience pa. Individually marami na kaming nalaruan, pero iba rin talaga pag matagal na kayo magkakasama tulad nung Pocari na team.”

“Kailangan naming mag-gel as a team talaga para kung makakapasok man kami sa next round, mas fluid na kami gumalaw as a team. Yung connection kailangan na namin yun,” the Batangas-native stressed.

In BOC’s previous matches, Valdez, despite producing quality outputs, was clearly the focal point of all the opposing team’s defense. But Valdez still iterated that games are not always about her.

“Thank you so much naman sa binibigay na respect sa’kin ng teams. At the end of the day, it’s a volleyball game. Maraming nangyayari sa isang rally, kung paano ka makakakuha ng points sa isang game.”

With the defensive landscape making her the primary focus, Valdez is somehow appreciative of such, saying that it only helps her notch her game even more.

“Sa dami ng nilalaro ko, nandun pa rin yung dapat china-challenge ko sarili ko to be better every game and to contribute sa team,” said the 23-year-old open hitter.

But she was quick to add that, as aforementioned, it is not always about her, insisting that it will always be a team effort in each and every match they fight in.

“Hindi lang naman ako yung nag-iisa sa team. It’s a team effort talaga. We have a good setter, yung teammates ko well-prepared sila, sobrang veterans. Tulong-tulong lang talaga to win,” wrapped Valdez.
