Converge will not be making drastic changes to the team it bought from Alaska in its maiden season in the Philippine Basketball Association.
After all, the team owned by Dennis Anthony Uy only has three months to prepare for the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup wars.
“We have barely three months to prepare for the next season and I will be working closely with Dickie Bachmann on this,” said team governors Chito Salud.
“Together we’ll review and assess the performance of the players and the coaches, and make a decision soon.”
The team it bought only has three players left under contract in Jeron Teng, Ben Adamos, and Taylor Brown.
The rest of the team, including the likes of Abu Tratter, Robbie Herndon, Maverick Ahanmisi, Allyn Bulanadi, and RK Ilagan are restricted free agents.
Sources though have told Tiebreaker Times have said that Tratter is most likely headed to the B.League unless a good offer for him to stay comes.
With this, Salud and Jeffrey Cariaso will be meeting the team tomorrow, according to one source closely monitoring the situation.
Yes, Converge will retain Cariaso for the meantime along with some members of his coaching staff, including Joe Silva, Danny Ildefonso, Franco Atienza, among others.
“Of course, the players are part of the sale, the coaches are part also of the acquisition,” affirmed Salud.
During the Governors’ Cup, Alaska was able to send NLEX to a decider in the quarterfinals. And according to Cariaso, the current Aces team is just a piece or two away from contending.
Salud also sees that saying, “For sure, we believe this team has great potential, and as I said, we just need to recalibrate and move forward.”
