Converge management maintains full trust in Delta Pineda

Converge has had a troubling start in the 2026 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Expected to be one of the contenders, the FiberXers currently sit ninth in the 11-team field, suffering three straight defeats to fall to 1-3.

Hopes were high after a sensational 102-94 win in their conference debut, but the FiberXers stumbled against Terrafirma, Meralco, and San Miguel.

Even head coach Delta Pineda knows the situation is concerning.

“Nakakabahala po,” admitted the amiable vice governor of Pampanga.

“Pero from the beginning, sinabi ko naman, maybe on papers we have good players, but yung chemistry hindi pa ganun. If you understand basketball, it’s not that easy. Yung chemistry, yun ang pinakamahirap. We’re like a new team. Ini-expect naman namin ito sa pagre-rebuild namin.”

Despite the rocky start, Pineda still has the full confidence of Converge’s management.

Speaking on behalf of team owner Dennis Anthony Uy and team manager Jacob Lao, team consultant Frank Lao stressed that they continue to believe in Pineda’s vision for the FiberXers.

“We are united in supporting our head coach, Gov. Delta Pineda, and he still has our utmost trust,” Lao told Tiebreaker Times.

“There’s no such thing as an overnight success. Even in business, there’s no such thing what more in basketball.”

Chemistry is currently not clicking for Converge, and there are reasons for it.

Their new addition, Mikey Williams, only arrived a week before the tournament opened. Then another new addition, Calvin Abueva, is currently sidelined with an injury.

To make matters worse, lead guard Juan Gomez de Liano has missed the last two games due to an injury.

But once everyone is healthy, Lao believes Converge will find its rhythm.

“It’s a process. Players have to not just be integrated, but also form a bond both on and off the court. We’ll get there,” said Lao.

He also vowed that there would be no changes in the team’s structure.

“We will not be replacing anyone from our coaching staff and Gov. Delta has our full trust and confidence,” Lao concluded.
