Cignal HD, Ateneo-Fudgee Barr claim bounce back wins


After sustaining losses in their last outings, the Cignal HD Spikers and Ateneo-Fudgee Barr Blue Eagles regained form with emphatic wins, Tuesday afternoon at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Behing a balanced scoring effort, the HD Spikers swept the Fury Blazing Hitters, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.

Ateneo standout Ysay Marasigan and former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon Wendel Miguel each provided 11 markers for Cignal while middle blocker Rex Intal added nine.

Former Mapua University Cardinal Pemi Bagalay topped Fury with 11 markers.

Cignal improved to a 2-1 slate. Fury settled for their third straight loss.

The Blue Eagles then made quick work of the veteran Philippine Army Troopers, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18.

American winger Tony Koyfman continued to lead the Blue Eagles offensively, tallying 15 markers. Open hitter Ron Medalla managed 10 points.

JP Rojas led Army with eight points while Benjaylo Labide added six.

The Blue Eagles notched their third win in four outings. Army dropped their third loss in as many matches.

Bryan Bagunas continued to light up the field, powering the Sta. Elena-National University Ball Hammers to a straight-sets win over the IEM Phoenix Volley Masters, 25-18, 27-25, 25-17.

The UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP erupted for 20 points off a scorching 17-for-31 attacking clip. Incoming NU rookie Nico Almendras added 14 markers.

Jason Canlas provided seven points for IEM while Joven Camaganakan and Lorenz Santos each added six.

After losing their first match, Sta. Elena improved to a 2-1 standing while IEM lost their third straight game.
